Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – The search for the new Albuquerque Police Chief has begun. The city hired consulting company Public Sector Search and Consulting Inc., to help with the recruitment and selection process. Mayor Tim Keller says he would like to have someone who is able to take on the challenges of today. The city continues to have issues such as fentanyl and drug use in public areas. “We are in a very different environment now that we completed our reform efforts with the Department of Justice; our crime-fighting strategies are working, and we are attracting more officers,” he said. “We also know the community is still concerned about safety. We have an opportunity to choose a police chief who will rise to meet today’s challenges, like the proliferation of Fentanyl and long-standing cracks in the criminal justice system.”
Former chief Harold Medina, retired at the end of December and for now, Deputy Chief Cecily Barker is serving as interim chief.
The city will have community input sessions and a survey will be sent out to give city resident opportunities to give their input on what type of chief the city should hire.
