ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A school bus accident in Albuquerque’s Northeast Heights ended without injuries Thursday morning after the vehicle slid off the roadway and came to rest on a steep embankment.
According to Bernalillo County Fire Department officials, crews from Engine 35 and Rescue 35 responded to the scene near Highway 333 and Tierra Monte Road. When firefighters arrived, they found the bus positioned on the side of an approximately 30-foot embankment, raising concerns about stability.
Emergency crews quickly worked to secure the bus and prevent any movement before safely extricating the driver. Authorities confirmed the driver was not injured and that no students or passengers were on board at the time of the incident.
Officials say changing road conditions may have contributed to the accident, though no further details were immediately available. The quick response from fire crews ensured the situation did not escalate.
The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges drivers face during winter weather and shifting road conditions, though investigators have not yet released an official cause.
