ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — High-speed internet could soon reach every corner of New Mexico. The Office of Broadband Access and Expansion (OBAE) has released its Three-Year Statewide Broadband Plan, a roadmap to achieve universal connectivity by 2028.
Currently, about 90% of New Mexico has access to high-speed internet, but officials say the new plan aims to close that gap completely. Developed with input from the Connect New Mexico Council and broadband stakeholders statewide, the plan outlines strategies to expand infrastructure, improve affordability, and boost adoption.
“This plan is the playbook to bring broadband to every home, business, farm, and anchor institution,” said OBAE Director Jeff Lopez. “We are on the path to universal connectivity.”
The plan focuses on four core goals:
- Universal availability
- Widespread adoption
- Next-generation advancement
- Program stewardship
It also identifies six strategic priorities, including statewide connectivity, affordability, infrastructure development, and digital opportunity.
Since its first plan in 2023, OBAE has finalized the state broadband map, expanded education networks, and awarded hundreds of millions of dollars in broadband funding. Officials say this new plan builds on that progress and sets the stage for the next phase of development.
The full plan is available now on OBAE’s website.
