ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – The Anderson Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum is inviting young artists to help celebrate a milestone in American history—the 100th anniversary of Route 66.
As part of a special exhibit opening in June 2026, the museum will showcase a striking black-and-white mural of the iconic highway, with colorful hot air balloons soaring above. Those balloons will come from the imaginations of local students.
K-12 students across the Albuquerque metro area are encouraged to submit original artwork depicting vibrant hot air balloons. Up to 50 designs will be selected, enlarged, and printed as part of the exhibit, which will remain on display for about a year.
The deadline to submit artwork is February 20, 2026, and winners will be announced in March. Selected students and their families will be invited to a special opening reception at the Balloon Museum to celebrate their contributions to this citywide centennial moment.
This contest offers students a chance to leave their mark on a major cultural celebration while showcasing the creativity that makes Albuquerque the Balloon Capital of the World.
