Santa Fe, NM (KKOB) – The New Mexico Department of Transportation is asking residents across the state, for input on pedestrian and cycling safety. The statewide survey, has already received more than 1,000 responses and will remain open until January 15th. Currently, New Mexico leads the nation in pedestrians hit and killed by vehicles. In 2024 94 pedestrians were killed across the state, which continues to be the highest number of any state across the country.
Once it closes, NMDOT will use the feedback and internal data to recommend different types of bicycle and pedestrian facilities for its safety plan. According to NMDOT’s Samuel Jensen, the full transportation plan is expected to be released in spring 2027.
