Albuquerque, NM (KKOB)- Albuquerque Fire and Rescue battled an apartment fire Monday morning in northeast Albuquerque. Fire crews responded to a call on the 300 block of Charleston St NE around 5 A.M and when they arrived they saw flames and smoke showing from part of the building.
After about 20 minutes, firefighters were able to get the fire under control, but there was damage to the kitchen of the apartment as well as smoke and water damage to an apartment next door. The cause of the fire has been determined to be an accidental kitchen fire. Two people were displaced and Red Cross was requested to assist with housing assistance. No injuries were reported.
AFR reminds the public that cooking is the leading cause of residential fires. Never leave cooking unattended and always have a working extinguisher nearby.
