ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO — The City of Albuquerque has opened its first public restroom at Civic Plaza, introducing a “Portland Loo” designed to provide a safe and private facility for all residents and visitors.
Mayor Tim Keller says the restroom is intended for everyone, including families and those experiencing homelessness. “We all deserve a private, safe place to use the restroom wherever we are,” Keller said during the announcement.
The Civic Plaza Loo features a baby changing station, handwashing and drying area, and ventilation for safety and comfort. This is the second Portland Loo installed in Albuquerque—the first opened in Old Town—and a third is planned for the city’s transit center, funded by federal grant money.
City officials say the addition addresses a long-standing need for public facilities in high-traffic areas downtown.
