CLOVIS, N.M. — A late-night crash at Hillcrest Park left one man dead and another seriously injured, according to Clovis Police.
The crash happened around 11:49 p.m. Monday near 10th and Sycamore Streets. Police say a pickup truck slammed into the park’s rock archway entrance. When officers arrived, they found the 32-year-old driver unconscious and unresponsive. He was taken to Plains Regional Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
A 23-year-old passenger was alert but trapped inside the vehicle. Clovis Fire Department crews extricated him, and he was transported to Plains Regional Medical Center before being transferred to a hospital in Texas for further treatment.
Investigators say alcohol was found inside the truck and may have contributed to the crash. The Clovis Police Department’s Major Crash Team is continuing to investigate.
