Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – An Albuquerque police officer is in good condition today after being shot at by a man police were looking for in connection with auto theft. When officers tried to arrest the man, the unidentified officer got into a physical struggle with the suspect and shot the officer. Police say, his portable police radio is what saved him as the bullet became lodged inside the radio.
The incident took place Sunday afternoon at the Rodeway Inn on Coors and Iliff on the city’s westside. Officers were in the area looking for a man they believed was on the Top 26 auto theft offender list. Once they found the suspect, the confrontation took place and the officer was shot at. Another officer then fired at the suspect who is now in critical condition at the hospital. So far police have not identified the officers involved or the suspect.
