Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) – We now have another candidate for Governor of New Mexico. Duke Rodriguez, the former Secretary of Human Services during the Gary Johnson administration and now CEO of Ultra Health, a cannabis company, announced his intention to run for governor as a Republican.
Rodriguez, announced his campaign in a message published by New Mexico newspapers on Sunday.
According to the Albuquerque Journal, Rodriguez said his platform will focus on helping families through changes to health care and nutrition assistance programs.
“I’ve got some bold ideas,” Rodriguez wrote. “Ideas like Guaranteed Healthcare for New Mexicans. Ideas like getting more SNAP dollars to those who need them most.”
Rodriguez also criticized what he described as waste and inefficiencies in state government, saying his proposals would redirect existing resources rather than raise taxes.
Rodriguez says, the campaign is a grassroots effort and asking supporters to help spread his message.
“I’m not about endless mailers and bad TV ads full of empty promises,” he wrote. “I’m running to be the Governor of New Mexico, and I want you to run with me.”
Rodriguez becomes the third Republican to enter the race, joining state Sen. Steve Lanier of Aztec and Rio Rancho Mayor Gregg Hull.
The candidates on the Democratic side are, former Congresswoman and Interior Secretary Deb Haaland, Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman and former Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima.
