Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –History was made in Albuquerque Tuesday night as Tim Keller was re-elected to a third term as Mayor of Albuquerque. He easily won a runoff election over his opponent Darren White. The final totals had Keller with 58 percent of the vote and White with just over 42 percent. Keller’s third term is unprecedented as no other mayor has served three consecutive terms in the job. In his speech to supporters Keller said, “The city has spoken, and folks have essentially said one thing loud and clear: they want us to keep going,” further stating his victory was a mandate to push forward and a challenge to rise to the occasion for the next four years. KOAT’s political analyst, Brian Sanderoff said the mayor’s win may have been because Darren White focused too much on the issues of crime and homelessness where Keller touted his accomplishments. Darren White told his supporters that he hoped Mayor Keller would understand that we want him to fight for our families and our businesses because that is what is important.
