Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –It’s called Street Medicine and the University of NM has received a $2.5 million federal grant to train medical residents to care for people without homes. UNM is one of 25 programs nationwide to receive the five-year grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The grant allows residents in family or internal medicine to work at mobile street medicine clinics in Albuquerque and on the Navajo reservation in Shiprock. Dr Arthur Kaufman, UNM’s vice president of community health says the street medicine program is one of the most popular experiences for UNM medical students.
