SANTA FE — New Mexico’s Outdoor Equity Fund will open its final application window for fiscal year 2026 from January 1–31, offering $1.9 million in grants to expand youth access to outdoor education and career training.
Since its launch in 2020, the program has helped more than 106,000 young people across 23 counties experience the outdoors. It’s the first state-funded initiative in the nation focused on equitable outdoor access for youth.
Demand for the grants continues to surge. In 2024, applications jumped 46%, with requests totaling $4.9 million—more than double the available funding.
Officials say the program not only benefits communities but also strengthens New Mexico’s outdoor recreation economy and workforce. Past recipients include programs for children in domestic violence shelters and initiatives supporting Native youth and individuals with disabilities.
