Albuquerque,NM(KKOB) -The University of New Mexico and Head Football Coach Jason Eck have agreed to a five-year contract extension, keeping him in Albuquerque through the 2030 season.
UNM is coming off a huge year — finishing the regular season 9–3, with a shot at the program’s first 10-win season since 1982 once their bowl game is announced.
Eck’s new deal increases his annual salary to $1.75 million (up from $1.25M) and includes incentives tied to regular-season wins, conference titles, postseason success, victories over ranked/Power 4 opponents, and coaching awards.
UNM Athletic Director Fernando Lovo praised the decision, saying the Eck family has “embraced Albuquerque in every way,” energizing fans, players, and the entire program.
Under Eck’s leadership, the Lobos have:
• Recorded their first sellout since 2007
• Earned the first-ever win over a Big Ten opponent (35–10 over UCLA)
• Snapped a 25-year road losing streak at Air Force
• Broke a 13-game skid vs. Colorado State
• Drew the largest November crowd in 17 years
• Packed 30,575 fans into University Stadium for the regular-season finale vs. SDSU
Preseason polls picked UNM to finish 11th out of 12 in the Mountain West… but now the Lobos are bowl eligible and very much back on the map.
