Albuquerque (KKOB)- New information regarding that home explosion on Sunday night that rocked a northeast heights neighborhood. The victim from the explosion who was initially taken to the University of New Mexico Hospital, in now at a burn unit in Phoenix, Arizona. The home was completely destroyed by the explosion and fire and we are learning that several homes had some type of damage. The explosion was felt miles away according to witnesses.
Evan Armstrong, lives across the street, he said his house suffered damage, with shattered windows and a shift that left a gap between bricks and walls.
He spoke with our news partner, KOAT,
“It sounded like a big thunder that was right next to the house,” Armstrong said, adding that the explosion also cut off power to his home.
A veteran, who has lived in his home across the street from the explosion for 34 years, is now staying with relatives until the structure of his walls are inspected. Eugene Quintana, said his wife smelled gas Sunday night, prompting him to call New Mexico Gas.”We were rounding the corner right there when it blew up,” Quintana said, recalling the explosion that reminded him of his military service.The blast spread debris across his roof and caused his garage to cave in.
The investigation by Albuquerque Fire and Rescue continues.
