Albuquerque- A busy weekend for Albuquerque Fire and Rescue, as crews were called out to a fire at an abandoned 10-story office building on the corner of San Mateo Blvd and Central Ave on Sunday.
Investigations into the cause of the fire are still ongoing. AFR arrived at the scene around 12:30 p.m to see smoke coming from the upper floors. According to AFR, the fire was brought under control within 15 minutes and damage was mostly contained to the elevator shaft in the basement which was also the point of origin. No one was injured due to the fire. This is not the first time a fire has happened at the building, which is supposed to be turned into an apartment high rise called “Serenade at Park Central” with 110 apartments. According to the Albuquerque Journal, construction on the apartments was supposed to start at the end of this year but so far no work has begun.
