Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen is releasing new internal data from Operation Route 66, saying it confirms what deputies and residents have suspected for years: repeat offenders are cycling through New Mexico’s criminal justice system. Out of 640 arrests, nearly half of the defendants with pending Metro Court cases are now in active warrant status after failing to appear. In District Court, more than 80 percent of pending defendants are out in the community, despite prosecutors filing detention motions in some cases. Allen says the numbers show an urgent need for transparency and reform.
