ALBUQUERQUE, NEW MEXICO – The Albuquerque Police Department will celebrate the 31st year of its Cops for Kids program on December 7, continuing a tradition of bringing holiday cheer to families in need.
Each year, children are referred through Albuquerque Public Schools’ McKinney-Vento program, law enforcement partners, and social service organizations. Selection is based on household income and available funding. This year, APD plans to support 50 children and their families.
Chief Harold Medina called the event one of the department’s most meaningful traditions. “For many of these kids, this may be the only Christmas they receive, and spending the day with them leaves a lasting impact on everyone involved,” Medina said.
Fundraising for the event is underway. Donations can be made through APD’s Chaplains Fund using the QR code provided on the department’s Instagram page. Those needing a donation letter can email copsforkids@cabq.gov.
