ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A former Albuquerque doctor will not serve prison time after admitting his role in a Medicaid fraud scheme that billed more than $800,000.
Dr. Keith Levitt pleaded guilty to two counts of Medicaid fraud and one count of identity theft. Prosecutors say Levitt worked with former New Mexico State Police Officer Morgan Ortiz through a now-closed substance abuse recovery program.
On Wednesday, Judge Benjamin Chavez suspended Levitt’s three-year sentence but ordered him to pay $1.5 million in restitution.
Ortiz also pleaded guilty to multiple felonies, including Medicaid fraud and practicing medicine without a license. His sentencing is set for January, where he faces up to three years in prison and at least $1.5 million in restitution.
