Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — As SNAP benefits remain paused, Albuquerque grocery stores are stepping up security and discounting food to meet the lack of demand. The city has launched a food access initiative, and some stores are reporting increased theft and lower sales. More than half of New Mexico’s food retailers are considered “high risk” due to their reliance on SNAP customers. With emergency state aid rolling out, grocers say they’re doing what they can—but the pressure is mounting.
