Albuquerque, N.M. — Emergency responders rescued an injured hiker Thursday morning on the Pino Trail near the Elena Gallegos trailhead.
Just after 11 a.m. on October 30, crews from Albuquerque Fire Rescue, Bernalillo County Fire, and APD’s Open Space Unit responded to a mutual aid call for a hiker injured approximately 1.25 miles up the trail. GPS coordinates helped guide crews to the location, where a bystander stayed with the patient until help arrived.
Rescue teams reached the hiker shortly before noon. The individual was treated on scene for a lower leg injury, then secured in a wheeled stokes basket for the hike back down the trail. The patient was transferred to Albuquerque Ambulance Service for hospital transport.
The entire rescue operation took about two hours from the initial dispatch to completion.
Emergency officials remind hikers to always carry a charged phone, share their location, and hike with others when possible.
