ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver announced Thursday she is running for lieutenant governor. She will seek the Democratic nomination in the 2026 election.
Toulouse Oliver launched her campaign with a video posted to social media and her website, where she criticized former President Donald Trump’s influence on national politics. “New Mexico needs a fighter who will stand up to him,” she said.
She has served as Secretary of State since 2016 and was previously Bernalillo County Clerk. In 2020, she briefly ran for U.S. Senate before endorsing Ben Ray Luján.
The only other declared candidate is Republican Manny Lardizabal, a small business owner from Silver City. His platform emphasizes economic freedom, public safety, faith and family values, and support for veterans.
