ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. –An Albuquerque teen already facing homicide charges is now accused of aggravated battery in a separate incident that occurred just hours before the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Angel Tafoya.
According to a criminal complaint, 18-year-old Austin Olimb allegedly shot a man in the arm during an attempted robbery at a park on September 16. The victim told police he was approached by three males while selling liquor from his vehicle. He identified Olimb as one of the suspects and claimed Olimb pointed a gun at him. When he refused to exit the vehicle, one of the suspects allegedly fired a shot aimed at his face. The man said he blocked the shot with his arm and was wounded.
He was later treated at UNMH for the injury.
Hours after that incident, Olimb was charged with shooting and killing Tafoya during a drug and gun transaction that escalated into a robbery. Olimb now faces multiple charges, including aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, and conspiracy to commit a second-degree felony.
