ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A man was shot and killed by police early Monday morning after officers say they witnessed him striking a woman in the head with a hammer during a domestic disturbance.
The incident happened around 3:07 a.m. at an apartment complex on Ceja Vista Road SW, near Atrisco Vista High School. According to Albuquerque police, two officers responded to a call and spent about 30 minutes attempting to negotiate with two individuals inside the apartment.
Police say they forced entry after hearing the woman was “under attack.” Unable to get inside, officers reportedly saw the man hitting the woman and opened fire.
The woman was taken to the hospital by paramedics. Her condition has not been released.
A bullet also went through a wall during the incident, but no other injuries were reported. All officers involved are unharmed.
Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public or to nearby schools.
