ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The University of New Mexico’s football game against New Mexico State is on track to sell out University Stadium for the first time since at least 2007. As of early this morning, more than 32,000 tickets have been sold, bringing the total close to the stadium’s full capacity of 37,440.
The matchup marks the 115th edition of the Rio Grande Rivalry, one of the most anticipated games of the season for both schools. Officials say fan interest is surging, and the team has issued a “Cherry Alert” to encourage supporters to purchase the remaining tickets.
A sellout would be a historic moment for the Lobos, who haven’t filled the stadium in over 18 years. The expected crowd would be the largest at University Stadium in many years, raising logistical concerns about traffic and access around the venue.
Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and university officials have not commented on any additional measures for crowd control, but fans are being urged to plan ahead and arrive early.
Tickets are still available, but they’re going fast.
