Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The Albuquerque Sunport has launched “Ascend ABQ,” a retail program designed to spotlight local small businesses. Nine vendors now operate kiosks throughout the airport, with rotating leases ranging from months to years. The city spent two years mentoring the entrepreneurs, aiming to make airport retail more accessible. Deputy Aviation Director Gary Gilliard says the program removes high startup costs and supports first-time vendors. A new “Fly Pass” is also in the works, allowing non-flying visitors to access shops and restaurants beyond TSA checkpoints
