Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — The NM Dept of Transportation has closed the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge to pedestrian traffic until measures are found to prevent further suicides. This comes after the remains of a 15-year old Taos boy were recovered on Sunday. A DOT spokesperson said the agency will increase the number of contract security guards stationed at the bridge. Suicide deaths in NM increased 9% in 2024. September is Suicide Prevention month and those struggling with mental health issues are urged to call 9 8 8 for help.
