ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An investigation is underway after a man was struck and killed while fleeing from New Mexico State Police on Interstate 40 in Albuquerque.
According to State Police, the incident happened Wednesday near the Carlisle exit. An officer had stopped to assist a truck that was obstructing traffic in the far right lane. The vehicle was later confirmed to be stolen, and the driver was identified as Dale Hinds.
Police say Hinds fled on foot, crossing the eastbound lanes of I-40. As he attempted to cross the westbound lanes, he was hit by a vehicle and died at the scene.
Authorities say Hinds had several active warrants. The investigation remains ongoing.
