ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A new sinkhole has forced the closure of the intersection at Copper Avenue and 3rd Street in downtown Albuquerque. City crews blocked off the area late Tuesday after a water main break caused flooding and roadway damage.
This marks the second sinkhole reported in the area in just two weeks. On September 2, a similar incident occurred at Copper and 2nd Street, where a truck fell into the collapsed pavement. That sinkhole was also linked to a broken cast iron water line.
No injuries have been reported in the latest incident, but traffic is being rerouted while crews assess the damage and begin repairs. Officials have not yet provided a timeline for reopening the intersection.
