Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) –Robots featuring cutting-edge technology are allowing the Los Alamos Golf Club to cut the grass without lifting a finger. The recreation superintendent in Los Alamos says the robots are like Roombas for the grass, with set paths to avoid barriers. She describes the process as the robot being able to mow about a quarter of an acre to half an acre, depending on the terrain, per battery. It comes out, mows a little bit, and then goes back to recharge, and then back out again until it’s complete. Previously, the team of nine staff members who would mow could only cut the grass once a week, when the course was closed to the public, but now these 13 robot mowers are able to mow any time of the week for longer increments of time. The 13 robot mowers cost about $90,000 for the county.
