Incident near Parsifal Street leaves one injured; police say road rage may have played a role
Albuquerque police have charged two men following a shooting Tuesday evening in the city’s Foothills neighborhood. The incident occurred near Parsifal Street and Buena Ventura Road NE and left one person injured. The victim was hospitalized and is expected to recover.
Investigators say the shooting may have stemmed from a road rage confrontation involving an all-terrain vehicle. According to court records, 32-year-old Martin Gonzalez told police he saw someone attempting to steal his ATV from a business on San Mateo Boulevard NE. Gonzalez reportedly retrieved a firearm from another vehicle and fired at the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Christian Zambrano, is facing multiple charges including auto theft, aggravated fleeing from police, and leaving the scene of an accident. Police say Zambrano was pulled from a heavily damaged vehicle by bystanders near Parsifal Street and Chico Road before officers arrived.
Gonzalez is charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and shooting at or from a motor vehicle. Police have not confirmed whether the shooting was justified or if additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
The Albuquerque Police Department has not released further details, and the case remains under active investigation.
