ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – An intersection in downtown Albuquerque remains closed after a sinkhole opened up Tuesday afternoon, partially swallowing a vehicle. The incident happened around 2 p.m. near Second Street and Copper Avenue NW. The driver was not injured.
Initial assessments by the Albuquerque Bernalillo County Water Authority revealed damage to a water line and storm drain beneath the roadway. Crews are currently working to repair the leak, though the exact cause of the sinkhole has not been determined.
The intersection is expected to remain closed for several days. Temporary water outages are possible in nearby buildings, including the First Plaza Galleria, as repairs continue.
