A well-known New Mexico athlete is back in the spotlight—but this time, it’s not for his performance on the field. Two of Diego Pavia’s brothers were arrested during Vanderbilt’s football game in Nashville over the weekend.
According to Vanderbilt University police, officers responded to reports of a disruptive fan throwing food and bothering others in the stands. That individual was identified as Javier Pavia. When officers asked him to leave, he reportedly refused. Police say his brother, Roel Pavia, then stepped in and shoved an officer.
Both men were arrested and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest. Roel Pavia also faces a charge of assaulting a police officer.
Diego Pavia, a former standout at Volcano Vista High School and New Mexico State University, transferred to Vanderbilt this season. He led NMSU to a 10-win season and earned Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year honors before joining the Commodores.
Vanderbilt has not commented on the incident.
