ALBUQUERQUE – Police have arrested 26-year-old Adil Syed on charges of raping a 15-year-old girl at a West Side park earlier this year.
According to Albuquerque Police Department detectives, the girl reported the assault in May, telling investigators she met Syed through social media. Syed allegedly picked her up from her aunt’s home along with two of her cousins. The group drove to a park, where the girl says Syed raped her inside his car while the others were away.
After the incident, Syed drove the group to a location near the girl’s grandmother’s home. Police say a fight broke out between Syed and the girl’s male cousin, who was seriously injured and later hospitalized.
Detectives identified Syed and attempted to obtain a DNA sample. Syed declined to speak with police and said he would contact an attorney. After no further communication, detectives secured an arrest warrant.
Syed was arrested Friday in Southwest Albuquerque and booked into the Metro Detention Center. He is charged with second-degree criminal sexual penetration.
Syed is the son of Muhammad Syed, who was convicted in 2024 for the murders of three Muslim men in Albuquerque. Muhammad Syed was found guilty of one count and entered a no-contest plea for two others.
