Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — Santa Fe Mayor, Alan Webber is proposing a minimum wage hike from the current $15 per hour to $17.50 per hour, with future increases tied to rent costs and inflation. Webber, who is not seeking reelection, says the proposal is based on a report on child hunger in Santa Fe. Webber says the current minimum wage has not kept up with rising housing costs. Some business leaders are expressing concerns on how the increase would affect businesses and especially the restaurant industry. If approved, Santa Fe’s living wage would be the highest of any New Mexico city. Webber hopes the proposal will be voted on by city council this Fall, before he leaves office.
