ROSWELL, N.M. — A standoff in Roswell early Thursday morning ended with two law enforcement officers injured and a suspect in custody.
According to police, officers were called to a home on East Sixth Street shortly after midnight for a report of a man threatening suicide. As officers arrived, the man allegedly opened fire.
A Roswell police officer and a Chaves County sheriff’s deputy were both struck by gunfire. Authorities say their injuries are non-life-threatening.
Law enforcement returned fire, and after nearly 90 minutes of phone negotiations, the suspect surrendered and was taken into custody. His identity has not been released.
New Mexico State Police are leading the investigation.
