ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — An 18-year-old murder suspect is now facing additional charges after allegedly pointing a gun at his 7-year-old half-brother’s head. Sheliky Sanchez appeared in court Wednesday morning, where a judge ruled he will remain in jail due to concerns over public safety.
Police say Sanchez was intoxicated during the incident and reportedly told the child “not to tell.” Prosecutors argued that Sanchez poses a serious threat, citing both the alleged assault and his connection to a recent homicide.
“Holding a firearm to the head of a 7-year-old child is violent and clearly was disturbing to the alleged victim,” said Judge Brett Loveless during the hearing.
Sanchez is already charged in the murder of Uber driver Joseph Andrus, who was killed two weeks ago. According to police, Sanchez admitted to the killing, saying he “wanted to let off some steam.” Prosecutors also revealed in a previous hearing that Sanchez confessed to three additional murders, though investigators have not yet verified those claims.
He is currently being held on charges related to both the homicide and the alleged assault involving his younger brother.
