ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash Unit is investigating a deadly hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a woman riding as a passenger on a motorcycle.
The incident happened shortly after 11 p.m. on Monday, August 18, near the intersection of Menaul Boulevard and San Pedro Drive, N.E. According to investigators, a black, lifted four-door truck with chrome rims that light up blue and a white Zia symbol on the back window struck a motorcycle and fled the scene.
Police say the motorcycle was traveling east in the far right lane of Menaul when the truck, traveling in the adjacent lane, merged into the right lane and hit the motorcycle. The truck then ran over both the motorcycle and its riders before turning south onto San Pedro — driving in the wrong direction in the northbound lanes — and leaving without rendering aid.
Both the motorcycle driver and passenger were taken to the hospital. The passenger later died from her injuries.
APD is asking anyone with information about the truck or the crash to contact authorities. The investigation remains ongoing.
