Richard Paul Seago Jr.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help in locating Richard Paul Seago Jr., who is wanted on charges of Aggravated Battery and Arson following a violent assault and house fire that seriously injured his 82-year-old aunt, Elizabeth Bass.
Deputies responded to a home on the 7700 block of Cedar Canyon Pl NE around 11:41 p.m. on August 10, after Bass called 911 reporting she had been attacked while sleeping. She suffered serious head and facial injuries and was unable to escape the home on her own.
First responders arrived to find heavy smoke and heat inside the residence. Working with Bernalillo County Fire Rescue, deputies were able to rescue Bass, who was transported to UNM Hospital in serious condition.
Investigators identified Seago, Bass’s nephew, as the suspect. He had recently stayed at the home, and evidence suggests the fire was intentionally set. Detectives believe Seago has fled the state and is actively evading arrest.
