CHINLE, Ariz. — Four people were killed Tuesday afternoon when a small medical transport plane crashed near Chinle Airport in northeastern Arizona.
According to the Navajo Police Department, the aircraft caught fire around 12:40 p.m. The plane had departed from Albuquerque and was en route to pick up a patient from a nearby hospital when the crash occurred. No patients were on board at the time.
CSI Aviation, the Albuquerque-based company operating the flight, confirmed the victims were two pilots and two healthcare providers. In a statement, the company expressed deep sorrow and said it is working to notify next of kin.
Emergency crews responded quickly to the scene, and recovery efforts are ongoing. The cause of the crash remains unknown.
Federal authorities, including the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, are investigating.
CSI Aviation says it is cooperating fully and has pledged transparency throughout the investigation.
