Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — During a presentation to lawmakers on Wednesday the director at Los Alamos National Lab’s Community Partnerships Office said the Lab is expecting a sizeable increase in funding, with an associated hiring bump. 800 to 1,000 new employees will be added to the rolls next year, in part to replace retirements and vacancies. The Lab plans to shift people currently from less technical work to more technical work as our portfolio of works changes at the laboratory based on federal priorities. Other national laboratories across the country are looking at layoffs of more than 3,000 scientists due to this administration’s budget cuts. In June, Sandia National Laboratories announced layoffs of 1 to 3% of its 17,000 employees.
