Albuquerque, NM (KKOB) — If the trees don’t go – — then “Old Man Gloom” may have to. The Kiwanis Club of Santa Fe, which sponsors the burning festival say that 12 Siberian elms in the city-owned Fort Marcy park, where the festival is held, create an indirect safety hazard that could cost the century-old event its insurance. Tuesday evening at the park during an annual community input event, Santa Fe mayoral candidate Letitia Montoya said she feared more trees would come down in the future if 12 were cut down now. Zozobra event chair Ray Sandoval said Zozobra will not happen this year without the removal of the trees. At this point, the city has not made a decision.
