NEW MEXICO — Fire crews continue to battle three active wildfires across the state, with monsoon conditions offering some relief and hope for containment.
The Turkeyfeather Fire, burning in the Gila National Forest, has grown to over 24,000 acres. Containment is now at 23%, and no evacuations have been ordered at this time.
Also in the Gila, the Goose Fire remains a challenge for crews. It has burned 1,845 acres and is currently 0% contained due to difficult terrain, weather conditions, and safety concerns.
Meanwhile, the Laguna Fire in the Santa Fe National Forest has reached 16,713 acres and is 55% contained. However, Gallina Ranch and surrounding areas remain under a “go” evacuation recommendation.
Officials continue to monitor weather patterns closely, hoping monsoon moisture will aid firefighting efforts and prevent new fire starts.
