Current Fire Activity
The Turkeyfeather Wildfire remains active, with crews reporting moderate fire behavior as of Sunday. Cloud cover and light precipitation helped reduce intensity in some areas, but the fire continues to burn through old fire scars and heavy forest debris.
Over the weekend, the fire crossed Gilita Creek near Snow Lake Campground, prompting crews to conduct firing operations along Snow Lake Road and in nearby pine stands to slow the fire’s advance.
On the southwest flank, the fire is moving toward Willow Creek, where firefighters have completed structure protection preparations and are assessing further firing operations.
Incident Command Transition
On Tuesday, July 15, command of the Turkeyfeather Wildfire will transition to the Gila Las Cruces Zone Type 3 Incident Management Team.
Weather Outlook
Daily thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds are forecast for the fire area throughout the week, which may influence fire behavior and suppression efforts.
