LINCOLN COUNTY, N.M. — In the aftermath of recent flooding, state, county, and local officials are offering curbside debris removal to help residents safely clean up their properties.
Residents are asked to sort debris into six categories before placing it at the curb:
- Electronics (TVs, computers, phones)
- Large appliances (refrigerators, washers, dryers — doors must be secured)
- Vegetative debris (branches, leaves, plants)
- Sediment
- Construction debris (drywall, lumber, carpet, furniture)
- Household garbage (food waste, paper, packaging)
Debris should be placed in a clear area with no overhead obstructions and at least an 8-foot radius of clearance. It must not block roads or sidewalks.
Officials say the cleanup effort is focused on health and safety, especially in areas at risk of further flooding. Priority zones, including waterways, have already been addressed.
Residents who prefer to dispose of debris themselves can find drop-off locations, accepted materials, and removal guidelines on the New Mexico Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management website.
Authorities also recommend photographing damage before cleanup begins and saving receipts for any flood-related expenses.
