NEW MEXICO — Muggy conditions have shifted farther east this morning, with only patchy fog lingering in the far eastern parts of the state. A few isolated showers and rumbles of thunder remain possible in the higher elevations of southeast New Mexico, accompanied by gusty east gap winds in some areas.
Morning Temperatures
- Valley floors: Starting in the upper 40s to 50s
- Elsewhere: Mostly in the upper 50s to 70s
- Northern mountain peaks: Still above freezing
Monsoonal Storms & Burn Scar Flooding Risk
Upper-level south-southwesterly winds and shifting pressure systems are squeezing out limited moisture, but isolated monsoonal storms are still expected—especially over burn scar areas and higher mountain peaks. Flooding remains a concern, particularly in northeast New Mexico.
Pattern Continues
Expect the familiar pattern of:
- Muggy mornings with breezy easterly winds
- Drier, southwesterly winds in the afternoon
- Storm development mainly to the east
Looking Ahead
Low-level Gulf moisture and a developing low-pressure system in the Rockies will bring more storms to the mountains later this week. By the weekend, expect:
- Increased storm activity
- A break from the heat
- Breezier conditions
Highs Today
- Central to southern NM: 90s to 100°F
- Four Corners region: Near 100°F
