SANTA FE, N.M. — Five teenagers are facing charges after allegedly attacking a pregnant woman and her family at a Burger King in Santa Fe on the morning of Wednesday, July 2.
According to Santa Fe police, the woman was eating breakfast with her young child and the child’s father at the restaurant on Zafarano Drive when the group—three girls and two boys, ranging in age from 12 to 16—allegedly assaulted them. Officers said the suspects were reportedly armed with a gun and a knife during the incident.
The pregnant woman was hospitalized with injuries, including trauma to her eye. Police said the group fled the scene before officers arrived. All five juveniles were located nearby, and although they were unarmed at the time, a firearm was later recovered in a nearby backyard.
Two of the teens had active arrest warrants and were booked into the San Juan Juvenile Detention Facility. A judge released the three girls to their parents. The two boys remain in custody.
The five juveniles are facing multiple charges, including:
- Assault with intent to commit a violent felony
- Battery
- Child endangerment
- Tampering with evidence
- Indecent exposure
- Unlawful carrying of a firearm by a minor
- Minor under the influence
- Disorderly conduct
Police have not released information about what led to the attack. The investigation is ongoing.
