A longtime teacher at Hope Christian Elementary School is facing serious criminal charges after being accused of sexually abusing a student.
Albuquerque Police say 66-year-old Kelly McEachren has been charged with criminal sexual contact and criminal sexual penetration of a minor under 13. The allegations stem from reports that McEachren inappropriately touched an 11-year-old student multiple times over several weeks—both over and under her clothing—while she was seated next to his desk.
The student disclosed the abuse to her parents in April, prompting school officials to place McEachren on administrative leave and notify police. According to investigators, the incidents occurred during class time, often with other students present.
McEachren, who has worked at Hope Christian for 35 years, denies the allegations. His attorney says he is cooperating with authorities and plans to return to Albuquerque from an out-of-state trip to address the charges.
Police believe there may be additional victims and are urging anyone with information to contact APD’s Sex Crimes Unit or call 505-242-COPS.
