Big changes could be coming to the New Mexico State Fairgrounds.
The state has awarded a contract to Stantec Consulting Services, an Albuquerque-based firm, to develop a comprehensive master plan for the 236-acre fairgrounds site. The goal is to transform the area into a stronger economic, cultural, and entertainment hub for New Mexico.
The plan, funded by a $500,000 appropriation from the state legislature, could include major changes—possibly even relocating the State Fair. Other ideas on the table include affordable housing, grocery and drug stores, and a multi-purpose sports and entertainment facility.
Officials say the project is about reimagining the fairgrounds to better serve the community and future generations.
