A former Albuquerque police officer has pleaded
guilty in federal court for his role in the ongoing DWI Deception scandal. Louis Henckel, who was fired from APD in 2021 for policy violations, admitted to working with a local attorney and paralegal to help get DWI cases dismissed.
Henckel is now the sixth former officer to plead guilty in the federal investigation, which has already led to the departure of 13 officers from the department. The scandal centers around officers allegedly accepting bribes or manipulating court appearances to undermine DWI prosecutions.
The investigation continues as federal authorities work to uncover the full scope of the misconduct.
